Homemade Wonton Wrappers Recipe | Easy Wonton Skin Dough
Homemade Wonton Wrappers, also known as Wonton Skins, are thin, tender sheets of dough made with simple pantry ingredients like flour, eggs, water, and salt. These versatile wrappers are widely used in Chinese and other Asian cuisines to prepare wontons, dumplings, fried wontons, wonton soup, and crispy appetizers. Fresh homemade wrappers are softer, more flavorful, and easier to work with than many store-bought versions. Once rolled thin and cut into squares, they can be used immediately or stored for later use, making them an excellent staple for homemade Asian cooking.
Cooking Method
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- Beat the egg with the warm water until well combined.
- Gradually pour the egg mixture into the flour while stirring until a rough dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8–10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with plastic wrap or a damp towel and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Divide the dough into two portions for easier handling.
- Roll each portion into a very thin sheet, about 1–2 mm thick.
- Dust both sides lightly with cornstarch to prevent sticking.
- Cut the dough into 3½-inch (9 cm) squares using a knife or pizza cutter.
- Use immediately for wontons or stack the wrappers with cornstarch between each layer and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
