Apple Butter Recipe | Rich & Spiced Homemade Apple Spread

Apple Butter.PNG 212.95 KB
Apple Butter is a smooth, rich, and deeply flavored fruit spread made by slowly cooking apples with sugar and warm spices until thick and caramelized. Despite its name, it contains no dairy butter. This classic spread is perfect for toast, biscuits, pancakes, waffles, muffins, and desserts. Its sweet apple flavor and velvety texture make it a comforting favorite throughout the year.

Fresh apples are simmered with sugar, cinnamon, and other spices until soft, then cooked down to a thick, spreadable consistency. The slow cooking process concentrates the apple flavor and creates a rich brown color with a naturally sweet taste. The result is a delicious spread that captures the essence of homemade comfort food.

Apple Butter is easy to make and can be used as a breakfast spread, baking ingredient, dessert topping, or giftable homemade preserve.

Cooking Method

  1.  Place apples, apple juice, and lemon juice in a large saucepan.
  2.  Cook until the apples become soft and tender.
  3.  Blend or mash the apples until smooth.
  4.  Return the puree to the saucepan.
  5.  Add brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  6.  Simmer over low heat, stirring frequently.
  7.  Continue cooking until thick, dark, and spreadable.
  8.  Taste and adjust sweetness or spices if desired.
  9.  Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  10.  Transfer to sterilized jars or airtight containers.
