Gored Gored is a traditional Ethiopian dish made from tender cubes of raw or lightly cooked beef seasoned with spiced butter and aromatic Ethiopian spices. Originating in Ethiopia, this popular delicacy is known for its rich flavor, simple preparation, and cultural significance. It is often enjoyed during celebrations, special gatherings, and festive meals. 

Unlike finely minced Kitfo, Gored Gored uses larger cubes of beef, allowing the natural texture and flavor of the meat to shine. The beef is typically mixed with niter kibbeh (spiced clarified butter) and berbere or mitmita spice blends, creating a bold and savory taste. Depending on personal preference, the beef may be served raw, lightly warmed, or briefly cooked. 

Traditionally served with Injera, Gored Gored is a beloved dish that highlights the rich culinary traditions of Ethiopia. 

Cooking Method


  1.  Cut the beef into bite-sized cubes. 
  2.  Melt the niter kibbeh in a small saucepan over low heat. 
  3.  Stir in the mitmita or berbere spice blend. 
  4.  Place the beef cubes in a mixing bowl. 
  5.  Pour the spiced butter over the beef. 
  6.  Add salt and black pepper if desired. 
  7.  Toss gently until the beef is evenly coated. 
  8.  Serve immediately for a traditional raw preparation, or lightly warm the beef if preferred. 
  9.  Arrange on a serving platter. 
  10.  Serve with injera and traditional side dishes.
