Homemade Spring Roll Wrapper | Thin & Soft Spring Roll Sheets Recipe
Homemade Spring Roll Wrapper is a thin, soft, and flexible wrapper perfect for making crispy spring rolls, fresh rolls, lumpia, and a variety of stuffed appetizers. Made with simple pantry ingredients like flour, water, salt, and oil, these delicate wrappers are light, easy to roll, and become beautifully crispy when fried while remaining tender when used for fresh rolls.
Unlike store-bought wrappers, homemade spring roll wrappers have a fresh taste and can be customized to your preferred thickness. The batter is spread into ultra-thin sheets on a hot non-stick pan, creating wrappers that are easy to fold and seal without tearing. They work wonderfully with vegetable, chicken, shrimp, beef, or tofu fillings.
These wrappers can be prepared in advance, stacked between parchment paper, refrigerated for several days, or frozen for future use. Whether you're making classic Chinese spring rolls, Vietnamese-inspired rolls, or Filipino lumpia, this homemade recipe produces soft, durable wrappers every time.
Cooking Method
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- Gradually add the water while whisking until smooth.
- Add the vegetable oil and egg (if using).
- Continue whisking until the batter is thin and lump-free.
- Let the batter rest for 30 minutes.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over low heat and lightly grease it.
- Pour a small amount of batter into the pan.
- Quickly swirl the pan to form a very thin layer.
- Cook for 30–45 seconds until the wrapper is set but not browned.
- Carefully peel off the wrapper and transfer it to a plate.
- Cover with a clean towel to keep it soft.
- Repeat with the remaining batter, lightly greasing the pan as needed.
- Use immediately or stack the wrappers with parchment paper between each one for storage.
